Learn names through a mingle game — each square is a low-stakes prompt, no circle sharing.

Run sheet: Opening Script → 20-Minute Session → Redirect Scripts. Print one bingo card per camper first.

20-minute night-one mingle. Print one 5×5 card per camper (+ spares). Age band 10–15; mini 3×3 OK for EF or low vision.

Why This Works

Core message: One-on-one chats reduce spotlight anxiety. Bingo gives campers a reason to approach others.

Why night one

Shy cabins need structure to start conversations. Bingo is not a race — pass and blank squares count.

Youth development move: Low-stakes facts beat forced introductions in a circle.

Pitch to Fellow Counselors

Best for: Shy cabins, night one with a printer, after This or That.

Watch for: Signing without talking; gloating about finishing first; squares that exclude new campers.

Printer failed? Use This or That for groups over 6, or no-prep initials grid.

Group Plan: Whole Cabin Mingle

Whole cabin in one shared space — counselors embedded in the mingle, not on sidelines.

  • Lead: opening, timer, close
  • Roamer: helps stuck campers start one conversation
  • Float: watches exclusion / cliques; joins quiet edges
Win condition: Not first to finish. Success = one full row or column or 7 signatures — slow finishers are not losers.

Safety Checklist

Core rule: No phone numbers, social handles, weight/body, diagnoses, or trauma prompts on squares.

Setup Walkthrough

Print + prep (15 minutes)

No-Prep Fallback

Notebook grid or whiteboard model if print failed.

Large group without print: Switch to This or That instead.

Opening Script

"This is Human Bingo. You'll walk around and find people who match each square."

"Before anyone signs, ask their name. Say yours first."

"Use initials — not full signatures. No handshakes required."

"One person can only sign one square on your card — and you can only sign one square on theirs."

"Pass is always OK. If a square doesn't fit you, leave it blank."

"You're not racing. Goal: learn names and one fun fact — not finish first."

Square notes: #12 (favorite way to recharge) — pass OK. #5 (has a sibling) — pass OK. #18 (favorite month) — month only, no year needed.

20-Minute Camper Session

Use the timer if helpful. It saves nothing outside this device.
