Volunteer roles
Camp TLC runs on volunteers. Most roles need no camp experience — training is provided before camp.
- Cabin counselor
- Stay in an air-conditioned cabin with about six campers. Help them get to activities, support personal care as needed, and keep the week fun and safe. Must be at least 18 and a high school graduate.
- Nurse or nursing student
- Join the medical team from local hospitals and clinics. Camp medical staff review each camper’s health plan before camp.
- Side-walker (equine program)
- Walk beside campers during horseback riding so they can ride safely and confidently.
- Bus buddy / check-in helper
- Help families check in and load buses in Dallas on Sunday morning before camp starts.
What to expect
Volunteering at Camp TLC is unpaid service. It is a full-week commitment: Sunday through Friday at Camp John Marc near Meridian, Texas.
- Training: Pre-camp virtual training plus on-site training before campers arrive.
- Screening: Interview and background check are required for all volunteers.
- Registration fee: A $35 volunteer registration fee may be requested; waivers are available.
- Experience: No prior camp experience is needed for most roles — we train you.
- Support: Nurses, therapists, and Camp John Marc staff partner with cabin teams all week.
If you are a college student or first-time volunteer, expect long days, team work, and a week that is tiring and deeply rewarding. Questions? Email camp directors before you apply.

Application coming soon
Online applications will open here. Until then, email camp directors with questions.
After acceptance
Congratulations — and thank you for serving Camp TLC.
Packing lists, training videos, policies, and on-site expectations live in the Volunteer handbook. Start there after you are accepted.
On-site activity guides for counselors are separate from volunteer onboarding. Use counselor guides during camp for activity scripts — not for application or screening questions.
